May Chook – Jazz & Improvising Vocalist joins SingingWorks February 12th as Special Guest Artist
May Chook is a jazz and improvising vocalist, community artist, and arts event organizer based in Toronto. Born in Malaysia, she came to Canada to study with a full scholarship and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from York University. She has also received training in safe space facilitation. Having been making music for over 10 years, she currently focuses on leading community music workshops and projects with underserved communities. Her works encourage creative expressions and she advocates accessibility to the arts. Some of the arts organization that she has worked with are Arts for Children and Youth, Artscape Youngplace, North York Arts, Association of Improvising Musicians in Toronto (AIMT), and Big Bam Boom Youth-Led Arts Festival.
