Cardinal Carter Students to Film DramaWay

November 29, 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians/Caregivers & Participants of SingingWorks & Fairlawn MultiArtWorks:

We are excited to share an excellent opportunity that has just been brought to us at DramaWay. A small group of Grade 11 film students from Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts is interested in filming our SingingWorks Vocal Performance Thursday, Dec 8, 2016 as well as our Fairlawn Multi-ArtWorks Program on Saturday, Dec 10th, 2016. The students are doing a small film project for their school about how art programs like DramaWay benefit individuals with of all abilities, empowering them to push past perceived limitations imposed by society. Similar to the recent TV series “Born This Way”, the focus of their film will be to highlight the outgoing personalities and amazing abilities of our young adults as they pursue their passions and dreams.

The Coordinators of the Project are eager to interview any staff, volunteers, parents and students in the DramaWay programs who are interested in being part of their film. We know some of you may have already spoken to Becky Gold with her recent Thesis project, so we know this may seem to be overdoing it. But it’s our perspective that our performers have rare opportunities to be showcased, so we’d like to offer them chances such as this. We also know Becky’s project only included participants so this is a great way for Family Members and Caregivers to have their input included. If you are interested in taking part, it will only require about 5 minutes of your time. They hope to have you answer a few questions on camera onsite on the dates listed above. Questions will be provided in advance by email prior to Dec 8, 2016.  Please contact Sarah by email no later than Dec 4th if you’d be willing to participate sarahmaraschiello@gmail.com .

Please note their film is only being developed for their school project.  We’d like to be able to showcase this on our website and share via Social media once it’s complete.  They will provide us with one copy which we’ll be permitted to share online.  We hope everyone will agree to take part. For those who attend the programs and prefer to not be filmed, we can still include them in the class, we will simply film around it. Please contact the DramaWay office if you have concerns and for those who prefer NOT to be filmed.  Simply call 416-614-1078 or emailing dramawayoffice@gmail.com

Thanks for helping us bring more awareness to the community. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Power Point – At Home Rehearsal Tools for our DramaWorks performers

Hello Everyone:
As you know this is our last week of our Fall session celebrating our final class and the start of the Holiday Season.
We are delighted to finally be doing our official Play reveal by giving each actor their own personal script. All the roles have been assigned and everyone seems delighted with their roles. We did a great deal of workshopping before assigning the roles so there shouldn’t be many surprises regarding the casting.
We also want to remind everyone, that this is the ROUGH DRAFT of the script. It always develops as we go along and see our talented performers take on their roles.
We will aim to maintain lines that have been assigned where possible.  As in the past, there will be changes as we go undoubtedly.  It’s not until we put our weekly rehearsals into action that we see where changes need to be made.
We ask you to help support us as we go along, with at home rehearsals where possible. The more you help your actor, the better the show will be! This may be as simple as helping him/her review his/her lines each night for 5-10 minutes.  If you need tips as to how to rehearse effectively at home, don’t hesitate to contact our Artistic Director at dramawayoffice@gmail.com or call us at 416-614-1078.
Our Staff member Adina Isaacs has graciously created a video tutorial for our actors which is a short break down of the play.  We will be sending it out and posting it shortly.
It was based on an earlier version of the script, however, it gives an overall break down of the story and production.  There may be a few outdated comments, such as the Emperor Poutine being referenced, yet now s/he we have altered that name to Commander Poutine. Also in our Video and Power point, we may have mentioned that there are Aliens on the Moon of Luna. However, we have altered those characters on the Moon of Luna to now be called Royal Lunites.
Our Power Point is an additional rehearsal tool which gives a visual and written story break down. Families and actors are encouraged to preview while becoming acquainted with the script. You should be able to find these resources here:
Let us know if you have trouble viewing.
Enjoy exploring over the holiday season. Our hope is that Actors arrive at the start of our Winter Term with as many lines memorized as possible. We encourage all performers to arrive weekly here on out with their script in hand and a dry pair of shoes.
A document sent out previously listed all the dates we start back in January.
Happy Holidays

Hello All,

We are wrapping up the fall term enjoyed treats and snacks.
At DramaWorks Scarborough our group will be enjoying treats and having fun with our official big reveal of our play.
At SocialWorks we will be enjoying the treats while also reviewing our own personal, practicing our hygiene and social skills. We are decorating gingerbread people and having hot chocolate – we would (under no obligation) appreciate healthy snacks (nut-free, veggies, fruits, popcorn) and drinks to share with all (if you have planned on bringing treats!

ExpressionWorks update

A very great night this past Thursday! We were all a’roar with laughter, celebrating our final clown class of the season. Our Volunteers Katherine and Liz lent their support with clowning as we invented new ways to look at odd props. Our volunteer Sam’s musical talents brought our actions to life with sound and dramatic pause. Helpers Susan and Divya inspired our quirky choices and audience encouragement. Our Staff Anne was our official photographer of the evening and captured our laughter. Will upload the wonderful photos to drive soon!!
We did have a few friends away; but all who attended had a blast!!
Next week we tackle kitchen hygiene and safety.

Enjoy singing Bruno Mars!

We may be working on this song for our upcoming Production. We encourage our actors to learn this song when they have time.

Clowning Around at ExpressionWorks!

It’s been a blast with our group starting our Clowning sessions under the direction of Alanna Balicki last week.

The Group is looking forward to starting our Holiday Season by clowning around and learning the tricks to being a physical actor.

Here are some shots at our latest session, I don’t think anyone can say these sessions aren’t a hoot! It’s clear everyone is having the time of their life!

Way to go gang!

SocialWorks will now run from 6:15 – 8:15 pm

Hi Everyone

I’m sure Adina has already sent you this, but if not, please be advised that our SocialWorks Program will now run from 6:15-8:15 pm. We were receiving a lot of feedback from families saying trying to get to the Centre for 6 pm was a challenge due to traffic and schedules. Therefore, after reviewing all the feedback, we have decided to go with the start time of 6:16 pm as opposed to 6 pm.  We appreciate your feedback and we aim to be accommodating and meet needs when and where we can.
