Casting Opportunity from Pixcom Productions

Hi Everyone

We received this email and thought we’d share it with all of you.

From: Harriet Luke <hluke@pixcom.com>
Date: Mon, Mar 6, 2017 at 12:01 PM
Subject: Pixcom Productions – Development/Casting
Cc: Taeo Soleil Levine <taeolevine1@gmail.com>

I just wanted to follow up on our conversation re: the show we have in development right now with CBC, that you might be able to help us with!

Just to recap the series will feature a group of individuals with disabilities who are super eager to get a job in the restaurant industry, but have struggled to do so. They will be put through a training course with a top head chef in order to learn the skills needed to work in a restaurant and set them up to enter the workforce!

We are looking to cast people with a wide rage of disabilities, ideally people who are starting out in their careers (18 –  25  years old). We are looking for people who have a positive attitude, an outgoing personality, and who would be capable of working long days and can communicate effectively. They can be located anywhere across the county.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated! At this stage we are just looking to speak with people on the phone and do Skype interviews. Taeo, cc’ed here is heading up the trainee casting, and will be in touch as well.

Look forward to hearing from you and don’t hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions!

Chat soon,

It’s that time of year again folks.

The Holiday Season is a time when most like to give back to the community. Please consider putting some of that good cheer and generosity to a project close to home!

My company @DramaWay has launched our yearly @Indiegogo campaign. Funds raised will go towards our many costs for our upcoming Showcase/production which will feature over 100 performers of #AllAbilities. Any little bit you can donate will help us tremendously. It only takes a minute to watch our campaign video and hear from our #performers themselves.

As our performers say “when you donate – we create”.

Special mention to the talented @AdinaIsaacs for the coordinating, filming of this footage and helping with the technical aspects of this campaign.

Additional Shout out to @AlyshaMae and @YankoYankov & @MilaShu for additional footage and support.
@OrinIsaacs for music support

We credit all of our wonderful performers for supporting and helping to make this their campaign with their own words!

Thanks to all who help us spread the word. For those who live out of town or can’t attend our showcase this is perfect way to show your support. I encourage everyone to share even if you can’t donate …maybe someone you know can!

Thanks and Happy Holidays from our DramaWay family to yours.

Our Actors make a difference in the Community!

Photo 2014-08-25 12 Lindsey C.jpg

Lindsey Chalmers has been a member of DramaWay for years.  As we enter our campaign season, we’d like to highlight her as one of our outstanding Performers. For those of you who don’t know Lindsey check out all she has accomplished to date.  She’s a stellar lady!

Lindsey has always been an avid athlete beginning with the Caledon Cougars Basketball Team when she was a youngster. In 2007 Lindsey moved with her family to Etobicoke and immediately joined the Etobicoke Stingers Special Olympics Basketball Team and the Etobicoke Eagles Baseball Team. She has participated in countless tournaments throughout these years and has always enjoyed and been proud of the camaraderie and team spirit that these two teams have exuded.

Lindsey graduated from Heydon Park S.S. in June 2013 and was presented with the Edith L. Groves Award for the student demonstrating Determination, Self-Advocacy and Compassion throughout her high school career. She then attended Humber College for two years in the Community Integration Through Co-Operative Education Program followed by one year in The Culinary Skills Program sponsored by Christian Horizons and Humber College.

Lindsey has also had a passion for the arts all her life, beginning with music lessons through the Humber College Community Music Program. She has been part of the Theatre Orangeville Youth Program, DramaWay’s DramaWorks and RhythmWorks Programs at Swansea Town Hall and Centauri Summer Music Theatre Dance Camp where she trained in Hip Hop, musical theatre, ballroom and breakdancing. Besides attending countless musicals over the years, in May 2012, Lindsey acted in a Clearwater Theatre Company production of Seussical the Musical at the Meadowvale Theatre. In 2014, Lindsey was part of a cast of 5 actors with disabilities in a play called Wolf Sounds that ran for two weeks at The Box Theatre in Toronto.

In 2013, Lindsey participated in the Mentorship in Motion project where she created an original painting that has been displayed in art exhibits in Toronto, including at the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg.

In 2015 Lindsey participated in the Disability/Visability Photography Project held at the Jewish Community Centre in Toronto and her photograph was displayed in their gallery this past February.

Lindsey just got hired this fall by McDonald’s Restaurant and is so excited to start her first paying job using the skills she has acquired through her culinary program.

You are invited to take part in Interviews about your DramaWay experiences!

You’re Invited!

Seeking past and present DramaWay performers, staff, and volunteers to participate in interviews about their time and experiences with DramaWay.

Dear past and present DramaWay performers, staff, and volunteers,

My name is Becky Gold and I am a former DramaWay staff member/volunteer. I am currently a second year Master’s student at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. My research focuses on theatre and disability. For my thesis, I’ve decided to write about DramaWay and plan to explore DramaWay’s history, artistic practices and acknowledge the company’s contribution to Canadian disability theatre.

From October 25-27th, I will be visiting DramaWorks classes at Birch, Scarborough and Swansea, to speak to your class about my project and invite to you participate in interviews in mid-November. There will be no pressure to participate from either Danielle or myself. Participating in these interviews will be entirely voluntary.

I will be handing out consent forms for interested participants to sign and return the following week either in class, or they can be sent to me directly in the pre-addressed, stamped envelope that will be provided.

For any former DramaWay performers or facilitators that would be interested in scheduling an interview but are no longer attending classes, please feel free to send me an email at beckylgold@alumni.ubc.ca, and I will send you a consent form to complete and email back to me.

I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks!

-Becky Gold
