MovieWorks embarks on a Poetic Narrative Project with published author Nicole Flynn

I Am Not Invisible

Nicole Flynn

People talk to me as if I am a child
I am an adult,
Look at my eyes and talk to me as an adult.

People treat me as if my feelings don’t matter
I feel things,
I hurt inside when things happen.

People won’t even let me try
I want the chance to try,
I might make mistakes; I will keep trying.

People do not see me; they treat me like I am invisible
I am here,
I want people to look at me.

People tell me what to do all the time
I can make decisions,
I am able to think for myself.

People treat me like a non-person
I am a human being,
I am not a mistake.

* Nicole credits Julianna Armstrong for helping to support this creation and looks forward to sharing it with all of you.

Come on out to the World Premier of her Documentary on December 28th to see more of what Nicole is all about.

Fundraising Campaign for a feature film starring past DramaWay participant Dylan Harman

Hi Everyone
Just wanted to give you a heads up that our long time volunteer and support staff and Toronto Filmmaker, Kire Paputts has a fundraising campaign we’d like to encourage you to consider if possible.
Since 2010 Kire has been a dedicated and loyal volunteer working alongside our Director & Founder Danielle Strnad. We are proud to announce that he made an award winning short film in 2012 called Rainbow Connection which featured many of our talented DramaWay participants and starred Dylan Harman an actor with Down syndrome and past MovieWorks participants. More info can be found at the link below:
I’m contacting you today because he’s getting ready to start a fundraising campaign for a feature length version of the film. As I’m sure you’re aware, there are few films that star actors with special needs and they’re a voice that gets easily overlooked. Like the short film, Kire’s goal with this feature is to bring awareness to this oversight, while also creating a unique film that showcases an actor with special needs in a way that hasn’t been seen before.
He’s already raised a portion of the funds through local arts councils here in Canada, but he’s still short. He plans on launching an IndieGoGo campaign in the next few months in order to raise the remaining funds. To help accomplish this he’s going to be hiring a publicist to help create media exposure.
Kire believes it’s important to reach out to other communities and organizations for endorsements. When approaching media outlets he’d love to include that they have the support of various special needs organizations and show people that this film goes beyond being just a film, that it stands for something much larger. Also, the media interest he does get, might want to speak with someone from organizations that you/your son/daughter attend. He is more than happy to include organizations in their campaign marketing, whether it’s the use of their branding, other visuals, or statement.
When they screened the short film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June they got Down’s Syndrome Scotland behind them and The Scotsman (their National paper) did a really nice piece, creating great exposure for both the film and the organization. We’ve included a link to it here.
He has also been able to generate some great local press, both on Global News and News Talk 1010 radio, which for a short film is unheard of. So, luckily, they are already getting some connections that are promising.
He is willing to send you more info on the film as well as himself if you’d like. Please don’t hesitate to contact him directly if you have any questions. His number is 647 209-9514

“Born to Hand” Jive Tutorial choreographed by Morgan Joy for our 2014 Production

We now have our Born To Hand Jive routine available here led by our Choreographer Morgan Joy. We encourage you to rehearse this routine as much as possible. Keep in mind it is fast, but we’ve got plenty of time to learn it. The more you rehearse it however, the easier our in-class rehearsals will be. Plus, it keeps you active, so you have fun and get an enjoyable workout.
