Update ExpressionWorks

Dear ExpressionWorks Family/Caregivers,

It was another night of the group experiencing new music and some really amazing dance moves during warm up.
Giggles all around filled the communication circle especially during the Peter Piper Tongue Twister and during story telling.
For our second week of our story telling session the group chose to utilize stimulus from the visuals presented to them and created a story from those images.  The story developed into a story about a woman who had difficulty eating a very heavy Oreo and her solution was to cut it into quarters and share it with her friends. The story was told through drawings that the participant’s made and at the end showcased.
Next week is our culinary class. Looking forward to seeing the cooking skills in action!

ExpressionWorks Update

We had another fabulous Week at ExpressionWorks.
The stretch circle was great for everyone this week and it seems as though everyone was in sync when doing their stretches and dance moves. We expanded our communication skills and song choices by choosing music that we do not regularly work with.
Communication circle was fun as the group said one of their favourite tongue twisters.  One of the participants led the group in another tongue twister and then challenged the group with a tongue twister that is used by radio professionals. This was fun for the full group.
ExpressionWorks developed our very own musical called “Princess Fish Woman”. Two groups worked on the script separately and then brought it together at the end. The musical told through the actions enacted, original songs and some dance moves had jokes and lines that were hilarious which made it very silly and engaging for all involved. The group shared a lot of laughs together which made the night a lot of fun.
After our development of our Musical, the evening ended with everyone relaxing to meditative music and thinking about what makes them happy. We used our communication skills to share with the group before leaving to go home for the night. Our hope is that we will use these skills not only in class but outside of program as well.
A continuation of Musical Theatre,  will extend into our Story Telling sessions for the next two weeks. Looking forward to all the creativity, imagination and originality of the participants as always.

ExpressionWorks Update

The class was like clock work this evening. All the participants were in their place in the stretch circle and ready to begin on time. Everyone brought their A game on and showed some impressive new moves!
News Flash this week was beyond belief especially towards the end. Wow, the question – answer repartee was so quick that it was like lightning and there were so many connections made between the participants.
The Musical Theatre part of the night was very creative! We started with some warm-up singing to get our vocal chords warmed up. The group sang the “Twinkie” song. If your wondering what the Twinkie song is, it is the lyrics of Do a Dear modified. We sang the original version too.
We, as a group danced, acted and sang to songs from the musicals Little Mermaid, Les Miserables and Wicked. The story of Little Mermaid was reminisced and retold with help from our fabulous participants.
We played the game, Broken Telephone. There was so much laughter in the room at the end, it was clear everyone enjoyed working on communication skills in a fun way. The combination of the words first uttered and what was actually said was the creation and birth of our very own Musical Title, Princess Fish Bone inspired by Little Mermaid. Next Class the group will enact, dance and sing songs from an original musical.
We are very excited for the creativity, imagination and originality the next class will bring. Looking forward to next Thursday.

Hot Lunch Jam Dance to Rehearse

Hello DramaWorks Performers:
This is just a reminder to be practicing the Hot Lunch Jam Dance. As mentioned in class, it would be great for you to practice it a couple times every week so that when we start going over it in class again you already know it! Remember the more you practice at home the better it will look on stage in June. Also remember for those of you who are doing the dance seated focus on the upper body portion of the dance only!
The link to access the dance is below, please save and bookmark so you can use the link each time you rehearse.
Have a great end to your week and happy February.
